Sunday 10th May, 1998

The club was only 3 days old and on a cold morning we headed off to our first tournament (after we finally got Chris out of bed! ;-) ).

TEAM:

FRONT: Sarah, Jonno, John, Ricko, Trudi, Kate
BACK: Sturt, Simon, Jay, Sam, Wade, Chris

THE EVENT:

Well, we were only three days old, so you can't expect miracles. We played a round-robin thing against 3 other teams. Each game was 1 hour.

NUdiscs v Wollongong:
This game was a pretty good one to start off the day. We were even leading for part of the game. Unfortunately, when the whistle blew, we were down 14-13.

NUdiscs v Canberra1:
This game was a lot harder. A well drilled team (wearing skirts?!) had our match. I think we managed about 5 or 6 points to their 13.

NUdiscs v Sydney1:
This was a tough match too. we did lead for most of the first half (7-6 at half time), but then they got away, scoring a few unanswered points. Casualties were also building up with Kate out for most of the match with a sore ankle, and Wade twisting his during the match. Final score: 17-13.

Well, we hadn't won any matches, so we didn't make the finals. But we still had one more game to play:

Dan Wilson Tribute Wooden Spoon Match:
I dunno who this guy is, but we played a wooden spoon match. We were plit up between two teams, so we can't really claim to either win or lose. The score was close, though.

Final Standings:
Group 1 Group 2
Sydney #1 Sydney #2
Wollongong UNSW
Canberra #1 Canberra #2
Newcastle

Semis:
Sydney #2 def Wollongong
UNSW def Sydney #1

Final:
Well, Martin Laird probably summed it up best:
"Some great play on both sides saw Sydney #2 come back from a small deficit to tie the game at time cap, 8 all. UNSW has a couple of attempts to score on the last point, but couldn't manage it, and Sydney #2 took the game and the tournament by 1 point, 9-8. "

Overall, we all agreed it was a great event. A great day, good fields, good food, good friends, and great frisbee. We went home tired but happy.
