On the 17th December, 11 brave souls from across the world gathered at North Narrabeen beach to contest the Longest Day 2000 tournament. The team was made up with people from many quarters, mostly from Newcastle University.
From Newcastle (albeit living elsewhere in the state):
Andrew Olennick
Carolynne Zambo
Andrew Martin
Stuart Bargon
Leanne King
Jonathan Holmes
From Sydney:
Glenn Hodges
Ken Shepherd
From Sweden (arrived in Oz the previous night):
Rob Dunakin (actually from USA)
Ann-Sofie Björk
From UK:
Alexa Troedson
As you can see, we were a mixed bunch, hence the team was known as The Mongrels. With a total of 14 teams entering, is was a large tournament. We played 6 round-robin games, and whilst not expecting to do well (we were there to have fun!) we did tie one game and win our last 2 to finish the day on a high.
As promised there was buns, dips, and fruits of the forest (watermelon, rockmelon, peaches, cherries, bananas, kiwi fruit, and more!) for lunch. Everyone went back home across the globe happy, if a bit sunburnt.
