10th February 2001

Welcome back for 2001!

It may have seemed quiet on the frisbee front for the past 10 weeks, but people have been working hard behind the scenes to make a great 2001.

We finished 2000 with several Newcastle players coming from all over the state to play the Longest Day tournament in Sydney. See the report in Tournaments (About the Club --> Tournaments).

2001 will start with O-Week. The club will have a display in the Shortland Union from 21-23 February. Come visit us an find out about the club's activities for 2001. You can join or re-join the club on the spot for only $5. For the first time, your NUdiscs membership includes automatic membership of AFDA (worth up to $40!).

This year, communication via the web will be supplemented by emails. All NUdiscs members will be automatically subscribed to the Newcastle-Ultimate egroup. For more details, see Email (About the Club --> Email Lists).

There are also several tournaments already planned for 2001. We start with an InterVarsity tournament to be held in Newcastle on the 18th February. The following weekend (24-25 February) is the annual Terrigal Towel, a beach hat tournament. Then at Easter we have Nationals 2001. For the first time, Newcastle will be sending a team to Nationals, this year held in Sydney.

During the 2nd half of semester 1 will be the Eastern University Championships, hosted by Wollongong Uni. There will also be the regular Savage Sevens, held in Centennial Park, Sydney. And finally, Newcastle University will be hosting the Australian University Championships during 9-13 July.

Yes, there's a lot happening in Semester 1, and I haven't even mentioned the social activities, Sunday games and Newcastle league!

See you on the field!
